Since 31 March 2024, all online retailers delivering in Belgium must offer at least two delivery methods before the customer completes their purchase.
This new requirement, introduced by the Act of 9 February 2024 (Article VI.45/2 of the Belgian Code of Economic Law), aims to strengthen consumer choice while promoting more sustainable delivery methods.
Why this new measure?
With the continued growth of online shopping, parcel deliveries have increased dramatically, leading to more road traffic, CO₂ emissions and noise pollution.
By offering a wider range of delivery options (for example, delivery to a parcel shop, locker, or in-store collection), retailers can help reduce the environmental impact of each parcel.
What exactly is changing?
From now on, e-commerce websites must provide at least two concrete delivery options (for example, home delivery, collection point, in-store pickup, etc.), unless one of the following exceptions applies:
Good to know
Sellers remain free to choose which delivery methods to offer and to set their own prices for each option.
This new rule represents real progress, giving consumers more flexibility to choose how they receive their parcels, while also supporting a more sustainable and efficient logistics chain.
